Shout out to all Black entrepreneurs! The power of the black dollar is essential. Supporting and promoting local black owned business is key for community enrichment and empowerment. Let's put our money back in our pockets!
Cleveland native Leon Chambers was a broke college student like the rest of us. As a student at Central State University, he wanted to come up with some quick money in his pocket. His mother, Kym, sold natural scents back home and he decided buy bulk product from her at a wholesale price to sell them on campus. They sold out quickly and became an instant hit. With an entrepreneurial spirit running through his veins, Leon just knew he could capitalize off the initial success and turn this into an official business.
Kymz Oils was officially established in September 2017. Named after and inspired by his mother, Leon created a mobile business where he can take his product on the road to sell to clients directly. Ranging from natural black soap and shea butter from Ghana to natural hair care products, this business is made by black people, for black people.
What sets Kymz Oils aside from other natural skin and haircare companies is the CEO's strong desire to help build up other black-owned businesses and creating a sense of community and generational wealth.
"I've hosted events where other young entrepreneurs come out, I speak to them, and we collaborate. Under my brand, I provide the platform for their product, they get recognition and business, while I'm expanding and helping my business as well," Chambers told me in an interview.
Like many makeup brands are owned by L'Oreal, Leon wants Kymz Oils to be that umbrella brand that encourages other black owned natural skincare and haircare brands to join him and become that conglomerate that impacts the community directly by creating revenue and job opportunities.
In a very short period of time, Kymz Oils has become wildly successful, with nothing but growth predicted in the future. Not only does the business travel and come to you, a brick and mortar establishment named Your Whole Body Wellness in Maryland, where Chambers currently resides, has Kymz Oils ready for you to purchase instantly. You can also order through his instagram and have it shipped to you anywhere in the US. Chambers has spoken to young, budding entrepreneurs at vending events and young kids in classrooms, spreading his positive message of the importance of the black dollar, encouraging our future to create one that is fruitful.
What's next for Kymz Oils? Right now, the company is on an eight-city tour, that started in Cleveland yesterday. Diva by Cindy, Divine Naturals and On'Jai Shea are new product lines, available for purchase, under Kymz Oils. The hope is for more brick and mortar stores to sell these products and just an overall successful empire to come out of all of this.
"I just want to create generational wealth, something a lot of black people don't have but should try to attain," Chambers said.
As for any up and coming black entreprenuers, he has this advice to share:
"Just do it. Put yourself out there. Don't wait for anything, there is no right time. Just go for it."
