This is the one where we don’t stop hustling, we don’t stop fighting, and we don’t lose sight of what we love. It is an endless adventure of passion and fury, love and disappointment, pride and fear. But it is an epic journey, a magnificent story, and one that should be soundtracked equally well.
Part of my journey this summer has been the emotional one of harnessing my own womanhood and learning what that means in the professional world.
What have I learned so far?
The limits that world sets for me don’t mean SHIT.
As long as I keep going after what I love, staying true to my passions, I don’t have a speck of doubt that my smile will outshine theirs later in life.
Here’s a list of 20 ladies who agree (most of them with a dope career to prove my point).
Dua Lipa: New Rules
Haim: Little of Your Love
Lady Gaga: The Cure
Alessia Cara: Scars to Your Beautiful
Hailee Steinfeld: Most Girls
Ella Eyre: We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off
Rihanna: Love on The Brain
Bea Miller: Buy Me Diamonds
Little Mix: Power (ft. Stormzy)
Paramore: Hard Times
Halsey: Walls Could Talk
SZA: The Weekend
Gabrielle Aplin: The Power of Love
Cam: Country Ain’t Ever Been Pretty
Cassie Steele: Mad
Ingrid Michaelson: Miss America
Honeyhoney: Thin Line
Maren Morris: Sugar
So if you find yourself down, or needing a good dance party, or even just a gal to vibe with via song, check out these fierce women across all genres that have turned their daily hustle into a life of love and creativity. I have personally been addicted to Dua Lipa and Halsey lately. Both artists recently released new albums that are fiery, feminist, and oh, so FUN!!! Check out Dua Lipa’s video for “New Rules.” Released this July, the “New Rules” video is both visually stunning and complex. It also narrates the painful plight of every young woman: trying to keep away from our exes and keeping our friends away from theirs. In a world where we are used to seeing women compete with one another, it is refreshing and beautiful to see a video that depicts women supporting each other and helping each other grow and be healthy and independent.
Have fun this summer, Queens. Never stop hustling, and don’t forget to dance along the way.
